BSA Co. SMLE unit disk ID ??

Portuguese or Spanish, my vote would be Portuguese given they were on our side in WWI. Portuguese troops in France in WWI were using British small arms I believe.

"Mecanicos de Material Terrestre, de Radio, Electricidade" as you can see by this phrase, the term is used for "artificer" or "mechanic/technician".

Unless there was a ship of that name in their navy, which I doubt, my guess would be it was a rifle used for training, perhaps of troops, perhaps of armourers.

The fact that the rifle is a BSA commercial variant could mean it was purchased by Portugal during or after WWI, or is just what they were issued in WWI. Hard to say.

Not sure what the "75" or the "E" would represent, other than a 'rack number' perhaps.

"...has a magazine stop..." No. 1 Mk III's had the mag cut off until W.W. I taught the British generals the troopies could be trusted not to waste ammo without it.

any idea on what the collectors value is on a rifle like this ??

It really depends on what the rest of the rifle is like, especially the bore. I'd say generally having ownership / unit / regimental marking are a bonus because it makes them more interesting. Some people do collect regimental enfields and would maybe pay more for one, especially if it was one that had meaning to them or was from a famous regiment or something. For instance, I'd pay more to get a Grenadier Guards marked SMLE than a normal one because my Grandfather served with them.

This fellow collects regimentally marked enfields, check them out, he some really interesting ones. He actually has 7 Portugese ones, maybe he'd buy yours? ;)

WANTED: Interesting Enfields. We are particularly interested in SMLE's that have marks, stamps, letters, symbols or numbers on or near the buttstock marking disc or receiver that indicate ownership or use by a regiment, police, militia or para-military organization of any country. If you have something interesting drop me a note.
