I’m interested in the BSA commercial rifles.
Wondering how common they are and whether they are comparable in value to a military No1 Mk3.
Any other information or comments are most welcome!
It seems every time I think I know of all the SMLE versions out there I discover another one!
Peddled Scheme, Dispersal, Commercial, etc. :bangHead:

Have a look at the Glenn James auction today of the estate of Barry Langille. Three commercial SMLEs that sold for $650, $700 and $900.

Fwiw, I have had several that also showed sold out of service marks. I think some of these got redirected to the army at various times of need. Often they show signs of hard use.

Commercial.
Feel the love!

Here's one for ya! BSA made in 1918 but never issued. I assume it was came off the line just when hostilities ended and therefore never saw combat. I further assume it sat in war stocks until it was declared surplus and sold out of service. Some interesting marks and stamps on 'er. You'll note the struck out military possession stamps, a second set of serial numbers, and the crown and "Sales Permit" stamp on the knoxform. Condition is pristine! Some moron had lacquered or varathaned the stock so I carefully removed the crap with lacquer thinners on the metal work and a cabinet scraper on the wood. Gave it a several coats of BLO and it was good to go. Shoots like a dream.

i have a few commercial lee enfield/metford rifles, both mill spec and sporters

this one is my favorite mill spec one I own. its a CLLE that was bought by South Africa and used in the UDF
