In my hands I have a BSA sporterised M17 in 30-06. I have quite a few questions on it, but will start with the basics. I did a search and found some great info, but not quite what I was looking for. :D

Now I understand that it would be manufactured by Winchester, Remington or Eddystone. How do I figure out who? I have the action in my hands but cant find anything distinguishing on it anywhere. Lots of markings, but no W, R, or E that I can see. Any ideas where to look or help on what to look for?

Question number two. Will the Timney trigger part# TIM110 work on this action? If not what are some other options for a decent trigger.

Thanks!

Keeping it an '06 or re-chambering?

Gonna keep it an 06. Just needed a beater truck gun, and this one will fit the bill nicely. The action and barrel are in great shape, the stock has been hacked over the years. But it will work just fine if I decide to keep it the way it is.

Might do something down the road with it if I get bored . I guess first I need to figure out who made the action

The action was made for a Whelen. Make it so!

BSA reserialled the rifles - at least they did on the three that I've had. Pretty hard to tell who the original maker was. I'd check the stamps on the mag follower and floorplate...

I was looking at one a few nights ago. Have you used one, if so how did you like it? What was the fit like out of the box?

That was actually going to be my next question :D

It was a great fit! I replaced the trigger with a Timney Sportsman, so I had to use the side edge of a file to remove some material inside the stock in order for it to fit. I did notice the pebbly paint finish didn't like getting gun solvent dripped on it (as it melted off in a small area.) However, I don't think there is any paint that will stand up to solvent exposure. The stock was fine, but it would be wise to be cautious when cleaning.

Where did you get the stock from?
