Could someone please tell me how to get the bolt out of the Majestic? I never thought I would have to ask such a question, but just can not find any bolt release.

Dry fire it, put a fair amount of force on the back of the trigger with your thumb and index finger while leavering some force off the front of the trigger guard. Then lift the bolt to recock while maintaining the force to the back of the trigger. It should slide out.
While getting ready to pack up a gun, I had to try four times before I got enough pressure on the back of the trigger.

Thank you very much for the replies and the PM. I will give it a try in the morning. Just got the rifle, a 30-06. The bolt isn't round, but has a lengthwise ridge (shelf?) with "BSA MAJESTIC," marked on it.

Some used the "reverse" trigger, other series, you simply pull the trigger and retract the bolt. BSA made this series of "improved" '98 actions for quite a few years, I think mostly in the 50s and 60s. They are very strong and unless severely abused are quite accurate. Several of mine will still go into 0.5MOA.

Maybe you have to try a small wooden wedge then between the back of the trigger and the trigger guard. Dry fire it first, wedge the trigger forward, #### it by lifting of the bolt, and withdraw the bolt. I think the Majestic was just a grade up from the Monarch.
In Frank deHaas 3rd Edition of Bolt Action Rifles, he lists, the BSA Royal, Majestic, Monarch, and Herter's U9.
In reading his description, it appears that you might have to pull on the trigger while cocking. "When the striker is down, pulling on the trigger causes the bolt-stop to remain down so the bolt can be opened and withdrawn."
The book is over one inch thick. Short of cutting the pages out to photocopy them properly . . . but I would do that if need be.
It appears BSA made changes, modifications, and improvements.
The Royal came out about 1954, and a medium action came out in 1956. The long action in 1957. There was an improvement in 1959 (called the Majestic)and in 1960. The Monarch was introduced in 1966, and in 1968 the intergral scope mounting bases were dropped. He then describes a method of removing the bolt by raising the bolt handle and pull the bolt halfway back, press forward very hard on the trigger, and while holding this pressure, pull the bolt out. The instructions I was given earlier was given to me and demonstrated by a gunsmith.
My Monarch, while sold, is waiting on the buyer completing the registration. It is sealed in a shipping box. As a courtesy to him, I will cut the pages from this book, photocopy two sets, and you can have the second set. Unfortunately, it will not happen tonight, and I "just have to" golf tomorrow.
