BSA Martini .22 - scope mounting

Winter project to do up this Martini International # 111. Want to put a modern scope on this one and with the target blocks on this one I can get the scope back far enough.

My question is with the scope blocks on this gun can anyone tell me a set of rings that will fit it? I've been debateing taking it to a gunsmith and haveing the blocks tapped and putting a Weaver base on top of the blocks so I can use standard Weaver rings.

Any thoughts or input appreciated.

If using the blocks won't work, drilling and tapping each block and mounting a flat bottomed base would be easy to do. With the cut away receiver sidewall, the base could be extended back as far as you wanted.
 
Thanks, but that's not an option. If you look closely at the blocks the are two different thicknesses to allow for the difference in height from the barrel to the receiver. If it comes to drilling and taping holes rather those holes in the scope blocks than the gun itself.

I found a weaver base that fits the holes for the blocks on my International MkII. I posted about it on RFC a few years back, I will see if I can find the post.

Or, you can find wich long weaver base as a similar countour as the barrel... and drill two holes in the base to match your two holes in the barrel...

Or if you go over to rimfirecentral(dot)com, I believe a few guys modified this to work with the barrel mount

and if you want to scope further back, you could always try to adapt a Volquartsen cantilever mount

Found my old post, use a weaver #82 rail and drill one extra hole in the rail this trick has worked well for others, as you can see from thread

I was about to drill and tap the barrel and receiver to mount the T-36 when I thought I would try a few Weaver rails on for size. Turns out a Weaver #82 rail (for H&R trapper 158C) is a perfect fit for the radius of the Mark II barrel. Miraculously, the thread size of the screws that come with this rail fit the tapped holes for the rear block on the Mark II. All I had to do was drill and countersink one hole in the rail, and it is as solid as can be. There was no need to drill the rifle. Redfield high rings are a perfect height for the T-36 with this rail, the objective just clears the front block.

Thanks Reg, I had actually saved your post from way back then but it's a different setup between the MK11 and MK111 so that base won't work. If it's any consequence I have you to blame for my BSA addiction since seeing yours several years back.

Great info " Sillymike " and I will try that email to see if those mounts are available. I had gone through Rimefirecentral but didn't come up with any of that info - Much appreciated guys.

Here is a pic of what I've gotten myself into in the last month. I had sold my MK11 a couple years back and kicked myself since.

Top is a Remington 513S with a Litschert 12X
Middle BSA MK 111
Bottom BSA MK V

Didn't want to but think the easy way out is to take the Litschert scope off the Remington and put on the MK111. Can always put a suitable rimfire scope on the Remington since it's a grooved receiver and have the peep's option.

There are sections of blank - flat bottomed base stock - available, with either Weaver or 3/8" .22 dovetail tops. Comes in foot long lengths.
First rifle I shot a moa group with at 100y was my brother's Mk.II BSA Martini, with iron sights.
 
Mister, it'd take a whole ten seconds of being in your shoes, to have that Litschert 12X onto the Martini. At least to try it! :)

Provided the mounts fit the bases that are there.

I like the cantilever mount, as about the best idea, if you want to go to a modern scope.

Matching up the radius would not be too tough.

Rem 3200: it is a futile waste of time!!! You need to spend more time with shotguns. Just dump those relics & move on. PM me & I will take those old things off your hands. We are here to help :) AJ

Well the MK111 got a trial run with the Litschert scope off the Remington 513S. Needless to say it's now a permanent fixture on the BSA and the Remington is getting a variable 3x9. Took all of ten minutes to swap it over. That MK111 / scope combo is scarey accurate - :D

Still looking at options for a scope on the MKV but no rush. Doing a wood refinish job on the scoped MK111 over the winter.

They kinda look like Lyman Tru-lock.

I have 4 RTB scopes, three Unertls and a Lyman Supertarget sop, and switch them all the time from one rifle to another, centerfire boomers to rimfires - absolutely no problems.
The Litschert would be the cat's meow for a Martini !!:dancingbanana:
