BSA Super Sport Five

UK shops may be a good place to start. Unfortunately the BSA Supersport Five magazines appear to be currently out of stock with the usual suppliers. According to their website, there's at least one available closer to home in Saskatoon at h t t p s://gunsmithshoppe.com/products/bsa-sportsman-5/

At $350 at this time, the price is prohibitive.

Well, if somebody acquires a rifle inexpensively because it doesn't have a magazine then $350 is no longer prohibitive for what is now a complete rifle.

Despite whether it completes an incomplete rifle, the point is simply that the magazine is $350 and that's an exorbitant price.

In other words, the price is excessively high for a magazine for a modest quality rimfire rifle. Such a rifle may not be worth much more than $350.
In fact, a GP ad dated Oct. 18, 2025, shows two rifles, each with a magazine can be had for $350 and $300 respectively.

I think your idea of prohibitively expensive and what others think are not in sync from observing auction prices. Who knows what peoples justifications are. They cannot be universally applied.

Ideas are often not in agreement when it comes to pricing and value. But for a relatively inexpensive rifle that can be bought today for $350, few would agree that $350 such a magazine is not "prohibitively" expensive -- that is, excessively expensive. That's all I have to say.

Excessive or prohibitive, or any other descriptor, it's just opinion, not fact.

Opinions are often presented as fact on CGN. Such is life.

This might just be my way of looking at this but Id definitely not be paying $350 for a magazine for a firearm worth $350. This is just my opinion and weed is legal and widely used and auctions are proof of this.

One reason why this may be so expensive is that the Sportsman 5 magazine was also used in the British Lee Enfield No 7 Mk 1. I think some of these rifles were sold without magazines so collectors are looking for the makings of an original. I recall reading somewhere that the rifles have very little value in the UK and that people were buying them simply to get the magazine.

The other option would be to install a wooden block to use as a loading platform for single shot use. This is not uncommon in some military trainers and 22 target rifles.

Who knows what motivates people. If a son wants to replace a magazine in a rifle that's been in the family forever, who's to judge him??

Auction results are a bit of riot from time to time, just never when I sell. :p
