Hi all,

Any members of BTSA? I am wondering, given the covid 19 situation how one could join this range this year. I am assuming all events will be cancelled so it would be tough to meet anyone to gain a referral. I see events still listed in their calendar but does anyone have any inside info?

Thanks,

Jason

Yup I'm a member of BTSA, currently Memberships are closed keep a eye on the website though. No events have been cancelled yet that I have seen so far. And when memberships do open you don't need a referral from a member just pay the $250 individual membership fee plus a one time $100 dollar range improvement fee, and wait for the range orientation event.

This is from their website on the membership page in big red letters:

New applicants are required to be recommended by one current BTSA member of at least 2 years. We recommend that those interested in applying, come out to our public events, join in, and meet members. The recommending members name MUST be included in your application, or it will be rejected.

They must have changed it, the membership page won't load on my computer or phone for some reason but sounds right the other clubs up there require the same recommendations from a current member. I apologize for the misinformation!!

I'm hoping to signup for this range on March 15 but notice I need a member sponsor. I don't know a single person at the range. Best way to connect with a member? I'm in west Calgary.

Our schedule was just set on the weekend and should be on the website in a few weeks as they get loaded.

The best bet to meet a potential sponsor is to come out to Wednesday night Steel Challenge or Thursday Night Action Shooting League (used to be our 3-gun night). They are both open to non-members.

We spent over 60k in range improvements last summer, and will be hosting several IDPA, USPSA, SC, and IPSC matches beginning in May/June snow dependent. Also good times to come out and make yourself visible as a volunteer and competitor.

Cheers

Sounds fun, will give that a go.

Hey Dangphool,

I am a total newbie and I am really interested in getting into Action Shooting - but at this point all I own are hunting rifles (though I do have my RPAL).

If I pick up a handgun and get some days in practicing with it at one of the indoor ranges, will I then be able to come out to the Wednesday and Thursday night events and start getting involved?

Thanks,

Matt

Can you practice on your own at the range? Yes for sure, but you will likely pick up bad habits that you then have to unlearn lol.
I would strongly recommend a Black Badge course simply because it is one of the best ways to get holster training from guys/gals who have the knowledge and experience to set you down the right path.

If you do get registered for one of our events, ASL or Steel Challenge, let the RO know that you have no holster experience, they should ask you when you arrive as they won't recognize you. You will then be started from the low ready position after some safety reminders.
