Anyone see the new issue of shotgun news? How to sporterize an M95 carbine

Seriously, you need to see the abortion they put together. I threw up in my mouth.

They don't have their articles online unfortunately

http://www.shotgunnews.com/

The "AR in 7.62x25mm Tokarev" is interesting - but I'd rather see a (non-milsurp) M-1 carbine in it....;)

If you're referring to the "Straight-Pull Sporter" article by Paul Mazan, I'd have to say that the only thing that really needs to be changed about the M95 is the ammo.....:p...but still, buy a Carc (basically the same action?) if the calibre's availability is such an issue......:yingyang:

i dont get why people get so upset if a individual bubbas his milsurp, lets face it tens of millions have been made tens of thousands are in museums and thousands are being kept original by collectors if a individual wants to do a gunsmithing project on
HIS MILSURP GUN what buisness is it to anybody else i cant stand seeing people get a hard time becuase they saw fit to do something to there own gun in 100 years there will still be plenty of original mausers and enfields to look at

That was the attitude that made Ross Rifles $1000+ guns. There's always an inexhaustible supply until magically that supply runs out.

Yea, you know we all get the fact that it's HIS GUN and he CAN DO WHATEVER HE LIKES WITH IT. I am always amused by those who spend $200 turning a $300 gun into a $150 one. Pretty much all I do is caution against the foolishness of it, but many just go ahead.

The M95 is a real lousy candidate for sporterizing - among the worst IMO. Spend the $350 or so on a used (or new Savage) rifle that is already "sporterized" and shoots readily available ammo.

well good then your ross becomes worth someting then doesnt it, i took a gunsmithing course and one of the projects was to learn by buying a cheap milsurp and sportorizing it, and at the end of the day whom ever that gun is registerd is who it belongs to and nobody has the right to get upset at someone who makes a home project out of it

because its fun! money isnt the issue with all shooters sometimes it is just something that sparks interest i dont believe to many here are making lots of money in this hobby, personally i restore my milsurps reblue refinish and sometimes rebarrel becuase i enjoy it

We all know exactly what you think, now. As for "nobady has the right..."(sic), well, we have every right to be upset by some moron who destroys history for fun. While we may not have the right to stop you and other Bubbas, we can certainly disapprove of your work. So, could you possibly troll somewhere else? Please?

I agree! Everytime someone destroys a historical artifact it's upsetting! Imagine if that guy had an original Tiger II tank and decided to make a sports coupe tank out of it! That would be very upsetting even if it is his tank! Heck even if he decided to scrape the Russian shellac off of it or paint it orange it would be upsetting!

We as milsurp/historical firearms owners are only the "owners" of them during our lifetime, in reality all we are is caretakers of these items. I believe it's our duty to preserve as many old guns in original condition as possible for future generations. The mindset of there are thousands of them so what does one matter is truly flawed.

Yes, one has the right to hack their own property, but everyone else has the right to criticize them for it, especially if they want to brag about their latest chop on here. Maybe we need a new forum for bubba? :runaway:

I don't care what anyone does with their property, but why are they always offended and surprised when they get jumped on for defending Milsurp butchery in the Milsurp Forum?

Try going to an antique forum and talk about how you removed the old finish and poured on the Polyurethane, or cut 4" off the legs of that antique piece of Canadiana?

This forum has as its foundational purpose, the preservation and research of Milsurps. Bubbas can go anywhere else such as Hunting, Gunsmithing etc. to ply their hobby, but here you deserve what you get.

Defending Bubbaing on the Milsurp Forum would be like going on the Hunting Forum and saying "Hunting should be banned as it murder" or going to the pistol forum and saying "only criminals need hand guns". OR going to the black rifle section and saying "assault rifles should be banned since we have no need for them in Canada". You get my point here?

NOTE: these are not my views, I was just using them as an example... Just to be clear:p

Well I do have a martini MkIII in 30-30, and another in .256 mag. BUT I started out with only the actions, not complete firearms.

I only wonder if preserving these for future generations is worthwhile, when the politicians want to turn them into rebar and sewer covers. Will future generations be allowed to own them by our governments?

Here is how it is equal. Most patrons of the Milsurp Form are those dedicated to preserving Military Surplus and Militaria. You go on saying how modifying a milsurp is OK, your gonna get yourself flammed here. Just like if you go and do some of the things mentioned in my last post, go to a forum dedicated to pistols and say they should be banned is gonna get you burned pretty bad, same as promoting Bubbaing on here.

You may not be upset by bubba, but a lot of people here (including me) don't like, say a mint mauser K98 being modified. I am no where near a "purist" like some other people on here, and I will admit, there are some really nice rifles that people have made from Milsurps. My grandpa's favorite hunting rifle is a K98. My dad's Enfield is a sporter, as was my first rifle. But if someone told me to cut the stock on any of my matching Milsurps I will tell them to go somewhere else (to be polite).

You are free to be creative with your firearms, and I am sure they will turn out nicely. But just don't expect to receive any hoo raw's form the Milsurp Section.
