Hi all,
got a seriously bubba'd no5 that I've been banging deer with for a few years. Pie plate accuracy 'till you neck size the fired cases then it shoots as good as I can.
I just plain like it - I put a plastic stock and built an angle aluminum scope base ala 303 british. Lots of other rifles to shoot but I keep coming back to it...

Tired of having the bubba'd front sight/flash hider catch on brush. Somebody even dovetailed the barrel for a "buckhorn" rear sight. Sight ears and bayo lug already gone so I'm thinking of pulling the whole works.

How do you remove the flash hider/sight?

seems to be a couple of pins that were ground down when the ears were removed.
left to right? solder?

can't get the search to work - any advice is worth a beer!

Thanks

I just removed a flashhider from a parts gun to use in a restoration project I just finished. The pins are tapered and one goes in on the right and the other on the left. You can tell by the difference in size between the two pins on each side. To remove them I drilled a shallow hole in each one- just enough to hold a punch to drive them out. Then I used a block of wood and a little force to remove the flashhider from the barrel.

How bubba'd is your flashhider?? do you have any pictures? I might be able to use it.

she's bubba'd but the flash hider cone itself is ok. sight ears have been ground off and the bayo lug is totally gone. This #5 has black medium gloss paint (original) that is mostly gone - strange looking duck. She'll be getting a degreasing and a coat of Krylon if things work out.
Charger bridge and rear sight mounts are ground off flush with the receiver. top wood is gone, bottom wood is bubba'd back to one of the squarish inside cuts - replaced it with a cheap plastic stock with a decent rubber butt. It is a whole bunch easier on the shoulder!
Going to pull the hider, use a ball bearing and some valve grinding compound to clean up the muzzle and give it a try.

Thanks for the advice - if you can use the hider let me know - if it shoots worse I'll put it back on!!
