I've got a swedish M38 that has been lightly sporterised. I've never had one (and I'm definitely not a mauser expert) so I'm not sure what has been permanently altered and what was a replaceable part.
So far I know the tang screw is missing, but I'm wondering about something else.
There are grind marks on the front of the reciever ring from just under the wood on either side travelling up and over and meeting in the center. I assume there was a thin disk there that stopped the handguard from sliding backwards there. It certainly isn't there now.
Are these like the enfield handguard stops in that they're a stamped washer that slides on, or were these milled with the reciever? Can I get a replacement part?
Long question for what I assume is a short answer.
Answer!
K, as I should have done before, I went on numrich and did some digging.
It's a removeable stamped metal ring. Aptly named "rear handguard ring". What'ya know.
