bucket of wheel weights

That sounds about right, I stopped by a salvage yard yesterday and asked about lead. They directed me to a worker, that was just sorting the various weights they had. I got lucky there was a pair of dive weights amongst it all.

I wait until i have enough to bring to the scrap yard but it's only 8kms away for me. these days there is hardly any lead weights in the pails, i certainly wouldn't pay for a pail of weights from a garage.

There are utube videos about casting and shooting zinc bullets.
Going from memory you need more heat to cast but the bullets can be loaded to higher velocities than regular cast bullets.

How much do you usually get for a 5gal pail? I have 9-10 pails to sort through currently.
I don't do five gallon pails. They're too heavy.

Last batch sold for 85 cents/pound, but that was just before Covid. I don't know what prices are now.

Unless there's a lot of zinc in the mix, I don't bother separating it at all, just cast and shoot it.

If I'm casting for a muzzle loader, then I use pure lead.

Yeah they’re heavy all right, I find out of a pail of mixed weights I get about half a pail of clip on’s and a 1/4 pail of stick on weights on average. The last 1/4 is more steel than zinc, I don’t know if it would be worth the trouble of taking them to the recycler just on the cost of fuel alone.

I sort everything as I like to separate the harder clip on’s from the softer stick on’s.

I paid 1 a lb at the scrapper I went to.

Yup, I got 85/lb when I sold it, quite clean, so if you bought it for a buck a pound the scrap dealer likely paid 50 cents.

Going market price fluctuates with time and the province.
