Just wondering where to get some more buckshot.

It's one load I haven't really extensively played around with, and I'd like to try more of it (All plinking, no hunting. Just to satisfy my own curiosity).

I'm looking for 3 things:

1. Possibly more per package than just 5?
2. Sizes other than 00 or 000 (Where's all the #4 or smaller stuff?)
3. Cheaper is always better...

Thanks!

i got some no. 4 a few month ago at walmart.

Just to clarify, do you mean #4 birdshot or #4 buckshot?

I've tried the birdshot already, I want to try something bigger :).

They had quite a bit at Russel's the last time I was down.

Hmm.. I was in Russell's just a little while ago, and couldn't find much in the way of buckshot. Mostly birdshot and clay loads... Wouldn't be the first time I didn't see something right in front of me though..

In recent years I have never seen it sold in other than the 5 pac.
I have never seen buck smaller than #4.
In 12 gauge, I have only seen, 000, 00, #1, and #4. 20 gauge is sometimes available in #3 buck. Can Tire, Russels and WSS usually carry but shelves are pretty empty this time of year.

It would appear so. I made it into Russell's today, and they didn't have anything other than 00 or 000. I asked about #4, and they told me they don't carry it because there isn't enough of a demand for it...

That's my neighbourhood CT. I kinda like buying there - I feel that it validates the franchisee's decision to continue carrying guns & ammo when most of them dumped their support for Canadian gun owners.

Couldn't agree more. I shop there a lot.

It's nice to also have the actual hunting counter where you can pay for what they sell there, instead of the little kiosk that does nothing but sell licenses apparantly. At most other locations (the Shawnessy location is especially bad for this), asking for anything else warrants the call for the manager, the 10 minute wait, the repeat of the call for the manager, manager arriving to finally unlock the case, then the walk up to the front, only to wait in line at the checkout.

I will check them out, maybe tomorrow, along with WSS and hope for the best...

At Canadian Tire, GunNutz are considered V.I.P.

Around here, Canadian Tire service is like nowhere else. It is outstanding!

I mean, seriously, where else do you get such outstanding service that includes being personally escorted out of the store as soon as you select your ammunition - no having to find your way out of the store, no having to be tempted to shop for other items - and with no risk of being mistaken by either staff or customers as anyone other than the V.I.P. that you (apparently) are.

Attention everyone! Make way. It's Richard Cory!

They generally even insist on carrying the ammunition for you, for goodness sakes. How are all of the other ammunition retailers failing to catch on to this? Such excellence in service! What a business model!

Tried S.I.R. ? Have a look at their web. www.sirmailorder.ca The online cart is not the greatest but they have some good people on the 800 order desk and some fairly knowledgeable product specialists. They may not be quite the same calibre as the average CT employee, but hey ya can't have everything ;)

If I was drinking coffee, I'd no longer have a computer to use :p

Thanks for the laugh! :D

Maybe next time I visit CT, I'll bring my own red carpet with me.

I thought about ordering it online within Canada, but isn't shipping for ammo prohibitively expensive?

Yeah, the shipping cost does seem high, especially if you are only purchasing a couple of boxes. If you are buying in 500 or 1000 round lots, usually the savings from lot pricing off sets the shipping cost and I have always still come out ahead compared to over the counter pricing. Depends on how much you can afford to stock and how much shooting you do. My ammo shipments almost always include other things from tap sets for damaged sight mounts to holsters, slings, books, etc. so this helps offset the cost as well and gets those other items to me faster than snail mail.

On a somewhat unrelated note, does anyone have any idea how much SIR charges for shipping for rifles? I'm looking at their page, and I've noticed that a lot of their firearms are more than reasonably priced compared to WSS... An SPS Varmint might not be out of the question... :)
