Buddy is looking for a CQB deer rifle

The Ruger Hawkeye in Stainless Synthetic is offered in .358 and would be great or if he likes lever a Browning BLR in .358 or .308, 7/08 would be ver handy as well my BLR in .358 is lite handy and a real thumper out to 250 yrds.

lever guns have never turned my crank and the marlin 4570 is like carrying a anvil that shoots double a batteries, its just to much gun for me. even the 358 and whelan i feel are too much.
stainless steel, carry weight(lite as possible), handling (as short as possible) and range(as far as practical), then anything but injection molded plastic stock
the choice keeps circling like a raven at a gutpile back to the short action 308 for bullet selection, economy availabilty and the 7-08 might be alrite too.

I feel fortunate that we still have the choice to make a choice of which firearm to get.

-How about a Marlin XLR with the new 30-30 Leverevolution ammo from Hornady? Or;

-A BLR in 308win. or;

-If not, a Remington 7600 in 308win. (It's what I use) or;

-The Remington 750 woodmaster in 35 whelen would also be a could choice if you want a bigger punch.

A Rem 7600 in .270 would do the trick.Good up to 250yds and beyond.The pumps are great for deer drives.Quick second/third shot is there when you need it.They are plenty accurate,and if you dont reload .270 ammo can be found everywhere.
 
for a deer CQB rifle.... you need a real one.....
A tricked out M14S would do. Shorten the bbl, get the scout mount (if it is needed).
The best deer cqb rilfe is a shotgun, or a spear
