budget .223 load

If your looking for a nice budget load.
I have used the fallowing with good results:
8 gr unique with a 55 grain lead bullet about 2100fps
11.0 grains of IMR-4198 under an 55 grain Gas Checked.
Or 17.5 grains AA behind a gas checked 55 grain lead bullet.
I don’t know if all these laods will cycle your AR actions since they were shot out of a bolt gun but the 8 grains of unique load is a common one which i think may cycle the action.

1lb of unique will go along way and if you don’t cast lead bullets you can buy .22 for cheaper than what you would get jacketed bullets for.

I shoot the following load from my Stag M4...

Remington 55g FMJ-BT over 23.3 Grains of Varget.

It can be a bit fierce due to the shorter length of the M4 tube, so I would reduce it by about 10-15%. However, its accurate and it also works fine with any make of 55g .224 FMJ bullet.

Have fun.

Can't get much cheaper than Higginson's surplus WC-735. Great for .223/5.56 and not bad for a bunch of other calibers. Get some bulk 55 grain FMJ and you are good to go.
I decided a long time ago to streamline my loading consumables and I chose the WC-735. I am not a long range target shooter and I don't load for Max velocities so, I use it for loads on everything. .243, 7.62x39mm, .308, .30-06, .303, and .303AI. I know it is not the "best" powder for each of these firearms but, with load development and bullet choice, they all shoot pretty much the same as when they were loaded with factory. Except the x39mm with PRVI ammo. Somehow, those are loaded VERY hot. Over 2600fps compared to Federal and Remington which are in the 2400fps range, which is where my loads keep me.
