Budget .44mag?

I like the Ruger Redhawk too, but my official stance is that you are better off saving your money a little longer, and buying what you really want, than buying 'budget' level quality.

Of course, I have a Norinco 1911 because it's really all the gun I want, of that type at least. If you want a .44Mag just to shoot occasionally to hear the bang and make your friends go 'Ohhhh,,,' maybe a used single-action is worth considering.

Ruger RH or SBH are my votes.....or hold tight and find a RH in 454 Casull :)

If it's a SBH just make sure you hold tight when you shoot or the trigger guard will cut your knuckle open.

Never had a used S&W in a 44 but had 3 used ones in other calibers. They feel better than the rugers but each one was plagued with one issue or another...before or after I resold (and went good for it). No matter how tempting it is to buy a S&W, my personal policy is to buy it new or I have to have it in front of me if used.

Best bet would be a Ruger Super Blackhawk. Look on EE and you can find them for around $500 ish.
Great guns and way stronger than S&W's

X2

I have two now and LOVE them. Get a set of dies and they are as versatile as can be. Everything from plinking/ CAS loads to full house blast them up loads.

My Redhawk isn't what I would call "budget level quality." It's a sound design well built and well finished. A Smith & Wesson usually means an even nicer finish (I have a K-frame .22 for comparison) and, it is widely said, a nicer trigger, but that's because the S&Ws are very good, not because of any deficiency in the Ruger.

But you are right. I made up my mind that I wanted a Redhawk in a particular configuration, and then I set aside the money and waited 'til the right one came along. I got what I really wanted and am better off because of it. :)
