After a convo with a buddy about budget rifle accuracy and which brand is " the most accurate" across the board I thought it would be neat to post groups from your budget rifle. Good or bad. What does your budget rifle group? .. Please state the rifle, scope and any mods. Rifle can be any budget rifle from any brands.
Post at least 5, 5 shot groups to weed out the one group wonders.
Hopefully if enough people post groups we can see which budget rifles have the " best" reputation for accuracy across the board ( I'd bet all brands will actually be really close across the board)
These are groups shot by myself and my son with my savage Axis 1st gen in 22-250 with bushnell banner 4x12 w Doa reticle shots were prone with bipod and rear bag. Target is a 3" sticker

Man, I think this is a great idea. Not sure I have a rifle cheap enough to participate, do have a Howa 1500, but it is all pimped out in a chassis.

I have thought it would be good to get a cheap project gun and see how accurate I could get it... so I will watch this thread closely!

Cool idea.

Theres a Savage Axis sporter barrel in 223 here I'll participate with as soon as I can. Won't win, but its pretty accurate for the money. $392 shipped to the door if I remember right.

interesting enough, a friends .308 Savage Edge? is one of the more accurate rifles ive shot/ sighted in , using just Corelokt factory its a Moa rifle as is with budget scope to boot.

TL;DR Savage and Stevens rifles are the most accurate low priced out of the box. Depending on everything else of course.

I don't disagree with this statement, it's a reflection of my experience as well. I've had to tweak their feeding and *hate* plastic trigger guards, but once you open up the magazine feeding lips and replace the plastic with alloy they go pretty hard.

The axis would be an amazing budget gun but I feel like its intentionally nerfed with that 50lb bolt lift to try to upsell you to what else Savage has to offer....

If you can't cycle it with 2 fingers, its not a good bolt action.

But does it shoot or not, which is the whole point of this thread?
