I'm cheap so I got a pair of 10x30 leupolds half price for $99 from wholesale sports. I've tried my friends $60 (again half retail list price) Bushnell 10x42 and while the field of view is better the glass is pretty bad.
This year I'm upgrading either my boots or binos, if I get new binos I'll be looking to spend $300+ tax give or take.
Last year I bought a pair of Nikon budget binos and am very happy with them.
It's the prostaff 3s 10x42. The bag, strap and lens caps are not so great though.
Very good fov, comparable to most 10x8 models.
Paid $ 154 shipped and taxes in (at best buy on sale)
Great value for money imo.
(Still decently priced on Amazon.ca but not under $150)
Check out prophet river and dante in Montreal. Deals and sometimes demos.
Bought a nice pair of binos ....demo....from prophet river......really nice, would have been nice if they told me there was no case, lanyard or lense covers. Found a case that worked and they live in the truck. Mostly whale watching when I'm on the ferry.
Objective lens size affects field of view and brightness, the latter in relation to magnification, divide lens size by max magnification, result is a figure called "exit pupil". The bigger the exit pupil the brighter, up to the point where it is bigger than your pupil can open in low light. Typical max for a young adult human eye is 7mm, diminishes with age, probably 5mm for most of us by our forties. But quality of glass and lens coatings will also affect brightness.
For your target price I suggest seaching the EE for old gear, good quality brand names, from gunnutz with good reputations.
