... with the exception of weaver products. Looking for european designs/manufacture.

I understand the factory D&T on the HVA 1600s are designed for Weaver type rails. But I am looking to compliment the vintage Kahles scope I recently purchased for it and keep it all European.

Wanting split-ring style. Any brand suggestions?

edit: I went with a Buelher set up.

Actually, Weaver have pretty much set the standards for receiver drilling and that's why you find indication that they are "drilled for Weaver mounts".
You should look for a Buehler, as they were pretty much the standard on these rifles at the time. Thats's what I prefer for the 1640/1600 series.
There's a guy who started to manufacture new Buehler bases (donno if he makes the rings, though) and sells them on E-Bay... what I heard is that his work is pretty good - but I have my own supply of new-old stock of Buehler bases and rings... which have almost dried up today...

In the HVA days, the trend was to be "modern" and they used a lot of US manufactured stuff (and you had Tradewinds who were supplying HVA with triggers and with their "Alloy" bases and rings and even scopes).

If you want Euro style, then, you will need to look for a Folke Dahlberg... but as you may already know, these look pretty "wild" :)

Buehler stuff is pretty nice - I have two sets - but as you mentioned they are pretty hard to find these days. Weatherby did sell some Buehler rings under their own brand name, so that is something to keep an eye out for. What about Conetrol? They make a pretty nice setup. If you want to stick to the "all European" then you may have to pony up for EAW or Recknagel mounts, although I am not sure how "period" they would be (Recknagel still makes claw mounts too) and the price for one of these mounting systems will set you back in the neighbourhood of $500.

I just dawned on me that the 1600 action is a small ring Mauser. And I just bought a set of FN 98 bases and Winchester M70 bases to mix and match (along with some code 6, 7, and 8 rings) to see what fits best with my scope.

will the radius difference cause issues?

The M/98 will, for sure, have a different front ring shape, the rear will be the same (or very close). The Winchester, I'm not shure, as I never comapred. But you may need some milling to make it fit.
