Buffer retainer

My buddy and I are trying to instal a Magpul QD end plate and have hit a snag. I know that when you screw the receiver extension into the lower, you stop when just the lip is covering the detent. In that position my buddies lower keeps shooting out the spring and detent. If we tighten the buffer tube one more full turn it retains the detent just fine but makes the rear take down pin really tight. Pic to follow.

are you talking about the buffer tube? My buffer tube had a small notch cut into it so the buffer retainer sits inside it a little. I had to screw it just enough to cover the buffer retainer.

first time, i screwed it too far and it caught the upper when trying to assemble it. Just twisted it out a little and the upper went in place.

Is that your issue?

Carbine receiver extension?

Why would it make it harder for the rear takedown pin to move? Is the extension protruding into where the upper goes?

The Magpul QD plate should have no relevancy. Turn the extension tube back into the same position it was before you removed it and you should be good to go.

If it worked before it should work now. This isn't making any sense.

When i hold the it all tight it will stay. It seems to me that the detent has a little gap that allows it to tilt forward and slip out.

You need to screw it in one more turn so that the extension overlaps the retainer.

Push it down as you screw the extension in.
