Buffer tube nut question

What is the preferred method for keeping the buffer tube castle nut tight??? I'm fed up with the damn thing working its way loose.

First off its the receiver extension but buffer tube seems to be the common name used. Second the nut used to secure it is called the castle nut because it looks like a traditional castle wall. Anyway the larger square cutouts should face the stock. The smaller cutouts should face the end plate. With a punch and hammer you are to stake the nut in place by striking the end plate driving some material into the cutouts of the castle nut.


I do the above and use some blue loctite.

Some do loctite it, but I would stake it per TDC's instructions, some loctite and stake. Staking is the correct way.

Just get the AR tool and hand tighten the thing. Loctite it if you really so desire. If you plan on ever changing anything out, I'd avoid staking it (makes it a b*tch to remove later).

Yeppers.... I loctite'd mine, and it hasn't come loose yet. My last AR was staked and it held great, either one or both will server you well. I think the loctite's the easiest method. I hear a strap wrench will work as well if you can't get your hands on the proper wrench, or find someone who does. If you're in or near Ottawa, I have the wrench and the vice block...
