I want to build another middlestead. I have one and all the reloading crap already so want to stay with this caliber. I look in my nosler reloading manual and see the 22-250 has the same brass diameter and bullet diameter that I need. This seems to easy but can I buy one of these 22-250's and get the guy that built this one to ream it out to the middlestead caliber. I'm not worried about magazine changes as I prefer the single shot. I just want to build one for coyote hunting as the one I have now weighs 11.7 pounds.

I think most factory 22-250's have a 1-12 twist and that should handle bullets up to about 60 grains. If you want to use heavier bullets an aftermarket barrel would be needed. You would also want at least a 26 inch barrel.

I have a Remington 700 26 inch pull off heavy barrel just like new in 22-250 if it is any use...... $90 includes mailing. I have to edit this - I just had a member say they would take this barrel..

I thought the standard twist rate for factory 22-250's was 1:14"

If was personally going to build a big cased 22 cal, I'd twist it accordingly to take advantage of the 70-80 gr. bullets, and the 60 gr. Vmax

Oops, I think you are right. I had a bit of a brain fart... I have installed a lot of 12 twist .22 barrels in the past and that is what I remembered.

Most older .22 centerfire barrels are 14 twist.....

The middlestead is the best of high velocity .22's. It will exceed hot .220 swift loads by 100-200 fps, and it feeds in repeaters much better than the swift.

It is much better velocity wise than the 22-250 improved.

What is the XR-100, I am not sure what this is? I was thinking of taking advantage of the new stevens 200, they are cheap and they are fairly nice, and also seem to be very accurate. I doubt I could get one in 22-250 at least that is what I hear. S.I.R. is out of them.

XR-100 is what amounts to a Rem M7 solid bottom single shot with a gorgous Laminated thumbhole stock and a target trigger.:)
