I'm planning on building a .22-250AI next summer and have a few questions as I'm going through things. First of all the action will be from my Savage 16FLHSS and I'm planning on going with a Shilen 26" Heavy Sporter barrel. I'm not sure of which stock yet. I'm thinking of staying with the 1-12" rate of twist my rifle currently has as I'm planning on shooting mainly 55grn bullets out of it. The big question is what version of the .22-250AI do I go with. Shilen lists a .247" and .255" version. Does anyone have any info on these? My area doesn't have much in way of knowledgeable custom smiths to help me out.

Thanks
Tim

How tight do you want the neck? Are you going to turn your brass? Do you handload or only shoot factory? Go fast twist, 1-8, then you can go 1 km..... 80 grain longbombs

Tim,

The guys in the Gunsmithing forum would be all over this. They would likely give you contact info for a few highly recommended guys to do the work for you, just a thought.

I guess that would have been the place to put this Greg. Maybe I'll have to switch it. As far as your questions Curt. It's not going to be a target gun. Strictly a Coyote whacker so I'm not overly concerned by how tight it is. I want it accurrate but am not looking for or expecting a gun that shoots in the .200"s all the time. I reload.....everything if I didn't I wouldnt be looking at a .22-250 AI. When did they start making factory ammo for them anyway? Not interested in 80grn bullets either. I have a .243 built on an old Model 70 that just looooooves 75grn V-Maxs.

Thanks
Tim
