I've been working with my new Brit "Bug" and while looking at his "baby pictures" realized how far he has come and how much I anticipate his first day on wild birds.

Bug sight pointing at 6 weeks

Bug at 3 months on a Chukar but still not completely steady.

Bug after getting skunked at 7 months.

Bug steady to wing and shot at 11 months.

Bug pointing with his mentor , my old boy Chip.

This week I'll be going out with 3 dogs to see how he does in a new distracting situation. Should be fun.

I went hunting with a folconer we had a goshawk and a German shorthair pointer it was amazing how the howk and dog worked together to bad ther is no folconers on Haida Gwaii I can get the birds but lack in training to properly Take care of them

We are springer guys, but the training is a big part of the fun, and watching a pup do something spectacular. We have a couple two year olds heading for their first major hunting trip next month... they will be tired but happy.

It does look like a lot of fun
I know a guy up north that works with mongrels for hunting Moose he using a old Indian trick for traning them quickly haven't hunted moose with him so can't say much about it
It's pretty cool how he gets just about any dog to work for him

Yup training a pup though frustrating at times is a huge amount of fun and rewarding ,there is an indescribable feeling about taking a bird over a dog you've trained yourself. I was lucky enough to have a pro trainer let me train with him for a summer and though I am in no way as talented as him I learned enough to train my first dog.
