I am looking into the feasability of getting a custom .270 WSM made and have no idea what a fair price would be and what kind of options onw would have on a stock / barrel. These would be my specs:

.270 WSM
Stainless barrel 26"
Clip
Weight 6.5 lbs

Nothing fancy as I would just go out and buy the Sako 85 in this calibre but I do not like the stock.

What would something llike this cost, would there be warranty?? Are custom barrels more accurate than factory??

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Building a Custom Rifle

If it is only the stock on the Sako 85 you don't like I would check the McMillan web site. They have many quality stocks to choose from that fit Sakos. There are not many quality rifles with detachable magazines like a Sako and the McMillan stocks would make a good match for a Model 85. If you don't find a McMillan stock listed for your rifle, phone them and ask about what other styles you like that may be adapted to a Sako - they are very accomodating and will custom inlet stocks of various styles, colours, length-of-pull and weight etc at no extra cost. If you decide on a McMillan stock be prepared to wait approx. 3 months for delivery.

A quality custom rifle is not cheap but neither is a new Sako with a high end after market stock. If you go the custom route be sure you research your gunsmith well and check his work before committing. A quality barrel installed by a competent gunsmith with usually shoot a little better than the average factory sporter barrel however Sako rifles shoot very well right out of the box.
