i was wondering about purchasing a ross rifle and converting it too a 8mm remington magnum,i would like too know if this would be a good conversion and what action it best suited mk1,mk2,or mk3 and if that round is not suited for the action what are some suggestions on a good cartridge for this rifle???
 
I'm not sure the Ross' action length could accomodate a cartridge of the 8mm. Rem Mag's girth and length.
Maybe some other "more modest" calibers could. The M-1910 action in its last versions is quite capable of handling modern rounds (the .280 Ross sporters were proofed at very high standards) but you'll have to find a cartridge of the right body length and taper if you do not want to totally modify the mag well to make it feed reliably ($$$).
Maybe you could find some advice from Bevan King; he's done many conversions for Rosses.

I know a retired 'smith who has built custom Rosses for his own amusement (he doesn't do work for others any more) . I may be wrong here, but I seem to remember him telling me that he re-chambered a 280 Ross to 7mm magnum because it was too much hassle to find and/or reshape other brass to 280 Ross specs.

I saw him shoot it at the range and it shot well. He's built a few custom Rosses, with new stocks, scopes mounted, etc.

Me? I've just got an old M-10 bubba in 303.
