Going to build a matchlock for my next project.I built one before and sold it and regretted it ever since. My new matchlock will be different as it will have an automatic sliding pan similar to a Snaphaunce. Here is the pic of the lockIMG_1743.jpgIMG_1742.jpgThe lock is being built by a craftsman down in the States

Very interesting! Not common at all to have an automatic pan cover!

Many years ago, I made a reproduction of this musket which is in the Royal Ontario Museum.

Later, I started this lock, for a late ca1680 musket. The barrel I plan to use is from a French 1717 musket. It needs a new breechplug, and has been "stretched". If it were to be fired, I would need to ream it out and install a liner. The octagon to round contour would be appropriate.

Probably a lot safer as well. The priming powder is only exposed when the trigger is pressed. With a pan cover manually swung back, the powder is exposed to weather, sparks, whatever.

What stock style are you going to be using?

I have a pattern for a late style matchlock stock.I will probably use a trigger instead of a lever for the lock. The barrel will be oct to round with front and rear sights
