I used to have a Non-Chromed barrel 1950 sks. It had the spring loaded firing pin, but I did'nt want to Bubba it up because it was lacking a Chrome lined barrel.

My question is, If I want to make a nice SKS with a Tapco stock and all of the goodies, What is the Best Model Year to look for??

I know the 1949 and 1950 models have the spring loaded firing pin, so a slam fire is less likely, but how likely are slamfires to occur on say a 1954 russian?

To make the best, most reliable, bulletproof SKS, would it be best to get a Russian built SKS with a Chrome lined barrel, or would it be better to use a non Chrome lined barrel SKS that has a spring loaded firing pin?

Also, if a SKS is 1952 model or new, will it have a Chrome lined barrel for sure? Because I have looked at quite a few SKS's and I have a really hard time telling the difference in the barrels. Or is the Chrome lined barrel very noticeable when looking down the end of the barrel?

Get a chromed 1, russian or chinese. Dont worry about slam firing, just clean the firing pin well and you will never have anys problems.

My vote is for chinese military.
I am so impressed with the quality.
Its one thing commies don't skimp
On, guns. Lol.
And I also just got a 54 russian with
laminate And was not chrome lined so year may
Not matter, not sure

Do all Norinco SKS rifles have a Chrome Lined Barrel???

When you inspect a Russian made SKS, is it very easy to tell if it has a Chrome Lined Barrel, just by looking down the Barrel at the Muzzle?

I have noticed a chrome lined barrel on some but not on others, but I have read that its difficult to tell on some that they are chrome lined. Is that true?

norinco is an exporting company . the lastest batch of chinese SKS has nothing to do with norinco.

yes, some russian SKS are difficult to tell whether they are chrome lined or not , especially if the muzzle has been painted , best way to test for chrome line is to do the cold blue test .

Well tell me this in your infinite wisdom, if Norinco has nothing to with the latest batch of Chinese Military SKS, why are they registered as:
Make-Norinco
Model-SKS

wow, infinite wisdom , i didnt think you had such a high opinion of me . thanks .

you'll just have to ask the man who imported them in , ask him why he said it has nothing to do with norinco and maybe he will explain why all my chinese SKS i bought over the years are all registered as norinco , even the ones that are made before norinco ever existed.

Well one thing is who decides how to register those. Hint : Importer.
How come you know so much about that new importation you did not bring that into Canada.
