Building an AR, need recomendations on parts

As the title reads. I'm looking to build myself an AR. There just seem to be far to many options on parts for these rifles so I'm a little confused on what to use.
I want to start off with a quality lower but I dont know what to start with.
I have been looking at Questar's site and the couple lowers they offer but I don't know what to look for.

They have a RRA Lower for $199 and some Spike Tactical lowers as well. What is the difference between the two? I'm looking to build something that is very accurate and I understand that a good mate between the upper and lower is crucial.

Any help would be great. If you would suggest starting with a different lower please feel free to let me know where I can find said lower.

Hey Tim,

For the most part... a lower is a lower. A tight fit is nice but actually has very little (if any) impact on accuracy, all of which comes from the upper. A tighter fit is better but really only because it provides a more solid feel.

RRA makes a decent lower that will serve you well and allow you to spend more money on quality internals, optics, lights etc. etc.

By and large, lowers are a "brand concious" buy... Nike vs. Reebok.
 
Ok well that is good to hear.
I was leaning towards the Spike lowers as I have heard some good things about there products.
I figure building my own is easier on the wallet as I can pick up pieces as the funds are available rather than $2500 all in one go :p
I guess I will look at ordering one of these Spike lowers and start picking up the goodies to get here put all together.

I will echo the comments of kenjuudo. There are a few lower manufacturers that have, or have had, quality problems. Olympic Arms springs immediately to mind (yes, I have one, I'm not talking out of my sphincter).

But most lowers are the same. The drawings and dimensions are widely available. The forgings all come from the same suppliers. Everyone is making them on CNC machines. There really is very little difference between most of them.
 
Can't go wrong with Spike's stuff...got alot of it in my Bushmaster and it never lets me down...in fact, I've got an order for Spikes billet upper/lower set going with Questar for my next AR build...I'm also a Magpul whore (as others are) so I definitely recommend that stuff also...
 
AR parts

Walter at ArmsEast is having a sale right now on certain items. As well he has stripped Stag lowers in stock at this time. For example a Stag upper A3 flat top receiver is going for $165.00 reduced from $204.00 . I just bought a DPMS A3 upper from another source for $199.99, if I had know about the sale I would have gone with the Stag upper. It might be worth looking into if you are ready to start your build.

Now you tell me! I bought a Stag from Walter only to find out the steer is queer. ;)

Still, its better than the snake with the tail that looks like a dildo. :D

OP: Buy what you feel like. The other posters were right, choose what you want, it is all good. It seems like we don't have many bad choices available since Questar stopped moving Oly. I would also suggest Walter for your needs. Great guy with great product (and pricing!).

Got to play around with one and install a parts kit into it. I think they are really nicely made, and I saw no issue with them.
