Hello,

I'm looking for advise on building my own gun. I've been looking at a lot of guns out there but most of them have synthetic stock. Well the one's a I like anyways. I'm wondering if anyone would know if I can just purchase the receiver and barrel from a company and put my own stock and trigger? Not sure if this would cost more then just buying the gun and changing the stock. If anyone has any advise it would be much appreciated. Also I'm in Ontario, Canada. So gun laws are strict and not sure what are the laws for building my own gun. Still pretty new to the gun world.

I'm assuming that you are talking about a hunting shotgun. I don't know of any manufacturer that will sell a gun without a stock. The lawyers would likely be all over them regarding liability, for God knows what. I suggest you buy the gun and sell the stock. That will give you some cash to work with.

No offence! You mentioned that you are "new to the gun world" - what experience, if any, do you have in terms of building a gun? Kinda brave venture, however, I'm afraid may not be a prudent one!

If you are simply thinking of perhaps just assembling a pump action shotgun (example Rem 870) from existing (and preferred) parts that might be doable as long as you have obtained the correct components i.e. receiver/barrel, bolt and trigger assemblies etc. The Equipment Exchange section of CGN often has ads for complete 870 receivers as well as barrels.

No offense, but unless your an expert craftsman that has been carving or molding things for 25 years, chances are your going to spend a pile of time making an ugly uncomfortable peice of ####. I have a million buddys that have tried that with knives and everything you could think of. How old are you by the way? Your better off buying some used shotgun and refinishing or slightly modifying it the way you want and then work on replicating with the modifications you want, you have to start with something close at hand otherwise you'll have no base to work from it your new to this game. What are you planning on making it from material wise? Not to discourage you, i hope you prove me wrong it would be really interesting to see...
