Built myself a Dlask Target 10/22

Finished my Target 10/22 today, well sort of. It’s ready to shoot. Dlask Dar-22 receiver and 19” heavy barrel, VQ trigger group and housing, Hogue stock, Caldwell bipod and 3-9x42 Vism Centrebeam scope. I borrowed the rest from my stock 10/22 and will scrounge replacement pieces as the bank account cools off. Will take it out this Saturday and sight it in. I have been using the VQ trigger group on my stock 10/22 and oh my god! What a difference.

I love the look of the Hogue stock, and even how it handles. However I'm very suspect about the amount of flex in the fore end. I checked out the Target tactical and the flex was very apparent. I have a lot of concern for how that will affect accuracy. Especially with a bipod, and with the 10/22 liking some forward pressure on the barrel rather than being free floated.

Great looking rifle. I'm considering building one like that myself. Have there been any concerns with that stock? I really want one, but I'm still on the fence.
 
I haven't bedded the stock, and I haven't shot it yet. I put the gun together about 15 minutes before the pictures. Yes the barrel is the 19" Dlask. I will see how she shoots before doing anymore work. I suspect the biggest issue I will have to work on will be the trigger pulling device.

I had a few people contact me about 10/22 parts and I just want to mention my stock 10/22 will be rebuilt as a junior model for my daughter. I am looking for a V block.
 
That is going to be my next project. A target .22. And the DAR-22 receiver is going to be my first choice as well as other Dlask products.

His website says that those ones are reinforced along the top. So I don't think that freefloating a long barrel would be a problem. Seeing that there is so much opinions going either way (yay or nay) on that subject.

Nice build ... your going to have to let us know how it performs.

There's ways to combat the flex. Some guys cut lengths of arrow shafts or old golf clubs and epoxy them into the fore end. It does help. The other problem with synthetic stocks, from my experience, is that they can flex around the action screw. The Choate one I did had a quarter inch movement up and down in the stock when the receiver was tightened down as much as I dared without stripping it. Bedding the stock totally fixed the problem. I haven't actually seen a Houge tough and would have to see the inside of the stock to see how it's constructed. If it's hollow like the Choate, be prepared to use a lot of bedding compound.
 
That's a really nice looking gun. Are Dlask receivers steel? How much do they go for?


I've got two hogue-stocked 10/22s, one bull barrel and one sporter. Honestly if there is flex in these stocks it's hard to detect. It's definitely not floppy like the old tupperware savage stocks. Hogue's website states the stocks have a rigid fiberglass skeleton, so I suppose that's roughly equivalent to reinforcement by arrow shaft.
 
The inside of the stock has a web with longitudinal and cross bracing. It feels like a nice solid fit to the receiver and I can't see any real flexing unless I really wrench on it.

The DAR-22 receiver is aluminum
 
Well got my new baby up to the range twice now. WOW what a great rifle to shoot, everyone who’s tried had a grin from ear to ear. The trigger is just so nice, and with the bipod this gun is effortless to shoot. I think we put 400rds through it the first day and I put another 200 the 2nd time.
I tried a wide range of ammo and it’s clear this gun loves Mini—mags, accurate and reliable feeding, it also likes Winchester Super X, wildcats and the bulk Winchester 333/555 from Walmart. It hates blazers, jams and all over the place, Federal work but not well, Fiochi works fine as does regular CCI.

I sighted it in for 50m, but changed it last shoot to 75m with the Minimags. This gun will reliably shoot out to 200m. The only issues I have had is with the extracting, and since I am using the old bolt from my other 10/22, I have ordered a new bolt and VQ extractor which should solve the problem.

Here are 2 targets each with 20rds of Minimags fired at them, one at 50m and the other at 150m. For the 150m target, the first ten were to the right and taking more care brought the next ten closer to centre. With more practice I can tighten up this group. All of the 50m stuff is above the green tape, the other holes are from shooting my M4 with a CMMG kit in it.
The whole purpose of this rifle was to help improve my rifle shooting. I can’t blame anything on this rifle, so I know anything odd is me and me alone.

Well been shooting my new baby a lot, had a few FTF, FTE, installed a VQ extractor and polished the factory bolt, no more problems. I also settled on a selection of ammo that it likes.
Winchester X-perts 40gr HV 1300FPS
Winchester 333 & 555 bulk packs
Federal HV 38gr HP
CCI Mini-mags

It's made in Canada. :D Tighter tolerances, cleaning hole in the back of the receiver, stronger and a built in rail. Looks great as well, and did I say Made in Canada? Not to mention, if your going to replace all the factory parts with aftermarket, why buy a whole rifle just for the receiver? I have one in a Hogue as well with an 18" Green Mountain barrel, and it will group in a quarter at 50 yards, never tried it at 200, but your groups might have me trying soon.;)
 
Not to mention its got a cool little maple leaf on the side as well......
