I'm waiting (impatiently) for my RPAL to come, so I'm spending time on here, and at the shooting lanes using their guns.

So.... what's the BUL series of guns like. I see Marstars sells them.

At the Shooting Edge the gun I have most liked to shoot with is the Beretta 92. It's the most accurate for me.

I've also used their SIGS, HK, GLOCKs and various revolvers.

I haven't shot a 1911.

Would the BUL M5 (1911) or Storm (CZ clone) or Cherokee be a good first pistol?

I can't spend a lot of money on this right now, and think the Israelis probably make as good a pistol as anyone, and a 1911 for $699 would be a good deal, as would a CZ cone for $599.

You can't just make an assumption like that. You have to look at the individual manufacturer and their reputation.

I have no personal experience with Bul. The price is attractive, but as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't expect Bul to be on par with the likes of Sig and HK quality-wise, but if price is the deciding factor, it may be a decent choice. Then again, these guns have been on the market for a while and yet hardly anyone here seems to own one...maybe there's a reason for that.

I have fired the government model and liked it. I wanted the Officer framed double stack with Commander slide, but Marstar was sold out. Bul used to make the frames for Kimber as well.

I can't recall hearing any negative feedback for the BUL 1911. I can't recall hearing any reviews of the Storm.

For the price, the Gov't model in .40 looks like a great gun to start Standard Division. My only concern and question is the mags.

There's a heck of a difference in price between the two types listed, and the question I have is what pattern do they follow. STI/Para???

A friend of mine recently bought a BUL M5. They are an interesting blend of technologies - a 1911 with a polymer frame that allows the use of double stack mags without being any thicker that a regular 1911. I believe (but don't quote me) that the BUL is the basis for the Charles Daly, SVI and possibly some of the Tanfoglio line of double stack 1911's. The only real problem my friend has run into with the BUL is the magazines. They seem to be especially finicky and tempermental. They are also quite expensive and seem to be in short supply. A pistol without good mags (and lots of them!) is just a funny looking paperweight! I'd say get a Glock or a CZ or a Sig or....
