Spout off owners. What do you think, and would you buy another???

I'm toying with the idea of getting the standard version in 9mm.

In Norway, guys who can't afford an STI will get a BUL. They have alot of the same components and the quality of the BUL is pretty good

I looked everywhere for a Bul. No luck at gun shows or dealers. Eventually ordered one from Marstar. It's taking a chance, I never fancied a plastic frame gun, but wanted a wide 40 cal without the cost of the Edge. When it arrives (transfer not done yet - after 2 weeks !) I will let you know what it's like.

Oh really? When did this happen? Is this a good change, or not?

Great idea. Ask an STI dealer if a competing product is good or not?

I've never shot (or even held) a BUL 1911, but I certainly wouldn't formulate ANY opinion about it based on what a dealer selling only the competitor's products had to say - just some friendly advice ;)

whether it uses any STI parts or not is also irrelevant. Lots of other manufacturer's parts are as good or better than STI made stuff. Without knowing what parts are used in the BUL, I'd be hesitant to come to any conclusion, pro or con. It's also possible they make their own parts(?) Speculation on my part.

A little over a year ago, according to STI. I'll just say that STI and I are not concerned with the competition.

As good, yes. Better -Who? STI does already provides slides, frames and other parts to a lot of well known high end manufacturers.

I don't want to hijack this thread - just wanted to make the correction regarding use of our parts.

Don't sweat the hijack, so long as we can induce some owners to forward their opinion of the BUL product on the market today.

As for who makes what? It looks like BUL have been making parts for the big boys, and seem to do a fairly good job at it. Now it looks like several of the big names have brought production in house. Who knows if this was a QC issue, or just a normal evolution of the OEM producers.

I do know that when a manufaturer looses a customer, regardless of the reason, changes are inevitable. Whether the issue was cost, delivery time, or quality control, you can be fairly certain that review will happen.

Like I said, I want to hear about the product BUL make today, not 3 years ago.

Granted, "better" is subjective based upon who you ask. "Better" might not be in terms of manufacture quality. What's ergonomically better for me, might not be for you.

All this to say, BUL not using STI parts does not mean the parts then now use are inferior necessarily - unless they are inferior - which I can;t comment on, because I don;t know what parts they are and I've not tested them myself ;)

Fair enough?

I've got no horse in this race, but I'd have to see the BUL products smeared unless the smearing is justified. They might be great guns but I've not heard or seen anything yet to say one way or the other. sadly.

At their price point though, it's doubtful their direct competition is the STI Edge ;)
