Mods will likely move this BUT wholesale sports has free shipping on crates of 7.62x54r Bulgarian silver tip, $250 tax in shipped! Unless I suck at the Internet that's the best deal for silver tip right now. Don't think it's gonna get any cheaper!

Silver tip refers to the silver paint on the bullet denoting ammunition type. I the former soviet block, silver tip is 148gr(nominal), steel core bullet.

At the end of summer this stuff was on sale for 199.99 a case. The current offer with the free shipping is still a good deal for anyone needing a case or two.

At the moment everyone seems to be focused on buying as much .22lr as they can and ignoring the cheap surplus 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r. Buy it cheap and stack it deep. Right now the surplus stuff is relatively cheap and plentiful. Don't miss out.

Exactly why I posted this. Surplus won't be around forever, especially with current events in Europe - I'm sure prices are only on the way up.

From what I understand the Bulgarian ammo very closely replicates the Russian stuff and they can be considered nearly identical for all intents and purposes. It is a steel core projectile with a copper wash steel case. The silver tip as already mentioned is only a colour code for FMJ.

I have heard that the Bulgarian has a reputation for terminal performance over other 7.62x54r loads. I am still trying to find out more about this. Not that it matters as FMJ is not legal as a hunting round anywhere in Canada that I know of.

Thanks for the info. Technically FMJ is legal here in Ontario for hunting, not recommended though. Might not be that effective, unless used on coyotes to reduce pelt damage. Probably pick a better caliber first though.

This is their everyday walk in price, but as mentioned free shipping is good for those out of the stores range.
