Where can I buy the cheapest, non corrosive, 30.06 ammo for my Garand? Does any one sell American Eagle or similar?

I am looking to buy 500 to 1000 for target shooting. I don't have time to reload, I bearly have time to shoot.

Thanks!

You'd have to contact retailers to see if they'll give discounts on ammo by the case.
Some say an M1 Garand needs special ammo to not bend the op rod. Others say any 30-06 will work fine. Hornady does make a round specifically for the M1 Garand but it isn't cheap and I have no idea how necessary it is.

I can't see it being less than $.80-$.90/round at best for modern brass cased ammo.

LOL

This is a joke right?

Bulk 30-06? Never heard of it. LOL

Honestly though, your best bet is to talk to a local shop and see what kind of discounts they can offer on the cheaper stuff.

It isn't completely unheard of though. Problem is only bulk stuff I have seen was tracers, and cost more than factory SP's.

Most modern ammo uses slower powders that can cause issues in the M1. The gas system is set up for IMR4895 with the gas port near the muzzle. The slower powders in factory ammo maintain more pressure at the gas port of the M1. This can cause bolt battering which can lead to the clip being partially ejected and caught by the bolt. The oprod can also bend under the increased stress and continued abuse. If reloading is not an option then invest in a McCann or Schuster gas plug. They are adjustable to bleed off excessive gas pressure so the rifle cycles as it should. The cheapest .30-06 I've found was American Eagle 150 gr fmj for $19.99/20 at wholesale sports. It will beat your M1 up without an adjustable gas plug. Buying a case usually doesn't get you a deal unless the salesperson decides to be nice and knock a percentage off. If you go to wholesale I wouldn't count on that happening. $1000 buys a lot more than 1000 rds worth of reloading components...

I'm not sold on the adjustable gas plugs myself. I know, I know it's fool proof right? Right!?
30-06 (especially rounds intended for an M1) is one of those cartridges that is just screaming to be hand loaded.
Simple, time proven loads abound for this rifle that are super easy to do and will save you a ton of cash.

Just bought 500 rds of Winchester 147gr FMJ, $17.95 for 20rd box. I'll reload the casings when I have free time.

Thanks!
