I live near Calgary and I find myself ordering bulk factory 9mm and 223 from site sponsors like SFRC or FOC who are consistently cheaper even with shipping than i can find locally.

I'm happy to give site sponsors my business but it would be great to avoid shipping charges.

Does anyone around Calgary find decent prices on bulk ammo locally that compares to the dealers i mentioned.

Find anyone that stocks CanadianBDX that stuff is "manufactured" but it is good. (Made just out of town)
Thats for 9mm anyhow. Its sold in bulk and will be cheaper then most new manufactured prices

have u tried western metal?- when he has his sales on, and you can make "arrangements " to meet in person

CSC has fair prices in my experience and excellent sales if you are patient. Personally I'm willing to pay a little extra to support someone local because I want to keep the option of having a local source.

most sponsors have free shipping over $200 or $300, so if yiu are buying BULK it shouldn't be an issue.

even 9mm by 1000 round cases is easily over $200

Western Metal is go to but TSE has new supplier of reloads. 124 grain 250 round bulk packs 74.95 ... I picked a box up to try tonight.

The whole 'free shipping over orders of x$' thing is bunk.
The company raises prices over their entire stock to cover shipping, so really locals don't get a deal.

Outside of dealing directly with BDX I've not dealt with local guys be they Western Metals, Ammo Kate or any of them.
Bottom line is bottom dollar. If local suppliers want to change that and generate local support, they should look at their business practices.

My friend, perhaps you should talk with some of the shop owners and others in the know. Usual markup on ammo is pitifully small, around 20% to remain competitive. On a typical box of ammo that's a couple bucks. Whooptie do. Nobody makes the big bucks on guns and ammo. That's just what they stock to get people in the door. Its electronics which do the "killing" for markup, so to speak.

So you're saying the mark up on, say, 1000 rounds of 9mm ammo that goes for $300 is $60 and they can just eat $50 in shipping charges to send it half way across Canada?

As far as remanufactured ammo goes I would add WASP to the list who have the same prices as Western Metal.

My original post though was about factory ammo prices. To give you an example I bought a 1000 rounds of Blazer 9mm 147gr for $285 from an Ontario dealer with free shipping which was great and they consistently have prices that local dealers do not come close too. I just don't understand with all the Calgary gun stores why the factory ammo is so much higher.
At the end of the day i'm happy to support the site sponsors out east but it would be nice grab some when you need it locally.
