Has anybody had any dealings with The Bullet Barn lately? I dealt with them years ago but understand they were sold out to another buyer. I have called to check stock and pricing on different items, only to be told the website pricing "hasn't been updated" and "prices have gone up". As far as I can tell the website hasn't been updated since the new owner took over as his prices are substantially higher and lots of inventory is now out of stock. Thoughts, opinions, dealings are much appreciated.

Hi
2 weeks ago I ordered 400 375 cal 265 grn bullets and received them a couple of days ago paid close to the posted pricing and of course shipping was a killer, but that is not his fault.
Great guy to talk to and work with. Very good quality and gas checked.
wanted 200 bullets', but he talked me into 400 as shipping costs were about 8 dollars more.

I too have dealt with the new owner - Murray Stagg - on a couple of occasions since the business move to Alberta. I have no problems to report and found his replies to correspondence good and his shipping of products quick. The quality of the bullets I received was just as good as those Lois produced.

I purchased bullets for the first time from here. Good product and priced same as other places.

My recent experience was different. My order was placed March 19, 2021.

Bullet Barn (AB) Review

Big drop in quality as Bullet Barn moves to Alberta.

Over the last 6 years I have ordered cast lead bullets from Lois at the Bullet Barn (BC) for my rifles in 38/55. I have been very happy with the high quality of the castings, the complete lubricant coverage and the well applied gas checks. Of the 1,000 bullets I recall only 1 that had a slightly crooked gas check. Lois was great to deal with a made sure that my standard order of triple lube groove bullets were sized to .377 and lubed with hard wax.

The pandemic spoiled the shooting season but I wanted to support the folks that I have bought from in the past. Lois has retired and sold the name to a guy who set up shop in Alberta. I figured that I would get my usual order of bullets.

The order of 200 cast bullets came with 4 extras, but 9 of the gas checks had fallen off when they got to me. About 1 in 5 were cast far too cold and showed very poor definition in the grease grooves and noses. But the lubrication was what really shocked me.

The standard hard wax lube must be expensive and time consuming to apply because the Alberta BB switched to a dusting of some mystery moly – you know the stuff that does not do anything but get all over your hands – that stuff! BB(AB) claimed that it was a Lyman product, but no details were provided. There is no mention of moly lube on the BB(AB) web site.

I emailed the Alberta BB to see if my order had got mixed up with another, as it was not what I was accustomed to getting from them.
The reply was that he has sold ‘hundreds thousands of rounds’ like that. I asked if I could send the bullets back and get the wax lubricant – the response was that I could send the bullets back, but hard wax is not available. The web site indicates that hard wax is used and that the cast bullets can be sized as the customer wants (as it had been for the last many years).

I was asked how I wanted to proceed.

I proceeded to order some cast bullets from another shop in Wetaskiwin, AB and one near Ottawa, ON. The shop in Wetaskiwin has provided good stuff in the past and I look forward to loading some of their cast product soon. I have not had the opportunity to see the Ottawa made castings but I remain hopeful that they will be as good as BC Bullet Barn.

I feel bad for Lois and Andy as they worked hard to build a customer base that got accustomed to great service and exceptional products. The new guy will get away with this for a while I suppose, but I wanted shooters to know that Lois doesn’t live there anymore, and that the (Alberta) Bullet Barn is not what it used to be.

Here is the transcript of the interaction:

Sir,

I am a long time shooter of Bullet Barn cast bullets but this will be the first order for the Alberta location.

I use the 375 cal FP GC TLG 265 gr..

My old packaging said 0.377" - can you still make them at this diameter?

Would you quote me a price for 200 pieces shipped to Beachville Ontario - post code N0J 1A0?

Thanks,

Stewart

Those bullets were custom sized to .377 so they are larger than
the ones that are currently in stock, let me know how they work
that coating is made by lyman for cast lead bullets
i sell hundreds of thousands with the dry lube
in the last couple years

sure you can send them back
no you cant get wax lubed in 377
the 377 is an oddball size and wont fit
in my lube machine those ones in 377
were hand sized and hand checked at
no extra cost to you shipping was 34$
and i only charged the gst on them
i tried to provide what you asked for
and be the most reasonable i could
the 377 is a custom totally hand made
bullet and is not advertised on my site
sorry to disappoint how would you
like to proceed

That guy in Wetaskiwin is shifty, keep your eye on him. :)

Of course prices went up, he needs to pay off the business. Western Canadian prices for cast bullets are ridiculous enough that I spent thousands of dollars on equipment to do it all myself. Some decent options out east but shipping is always a killer.

The Alberta Bullet Barn prices did not go up.

The quality of the cast bullets went down with the move to Alberta.

I never minded paying the folks at CanadaPost to get the good stuff from Lois at the BC Bullet Barn.

.

I have been happy with your cast bullets, very happy indeed.

I just wish that Canada was not so big, and that I could drive over to pick them up!

.

Lead is heavy and gets expensive to ship. That said I can ship AB to GTA for nearly the same price as to Regina, but a town 2 hours outside Toronto the CCanada Post rate doubles. Figure that out.

Did you read the OP? If you did you missed the part where he said the prices went up...

I ordered brass, not bullets...but according to the owner the price of brass has skyrocketed because the suppliers are a year behind. I conveniently received a bag of old stock brass with the price crossed out and the new price scratched over top.

He’s an hour or so from me I stopped in there a couple of weeks ago nice guy and prices are up a bit but so is everything else

I placed an order for .32-20 bullets about a year ago. No problem getting the order delivered . No issues except the bullets
came without the standard lube in the grooves. Instead there was a grey coating all over the bullets & a note that said
that the "Grey" was the lube & these bullets are ready to load. I have not used these bullets yet so no comments on the "Grey"
coating. I have never used this "Grey" before , but seem to remember reading about it. Maybe it is better than standard lube
in the grooves? I am confident it will be OK. Time will tell.

The coating on the bullets is more than likely Motor Mica. BDX used this coating on their bullets, and other than it gets on your hands, wear rubber gloves, it was fine.
