Hey CGN nutz looking an getting some feed back or a poll on bullets for my 6.5PRC. Its specially for hunting but I do shoot long range for fun occasionally with it to.
Rifle is a Sako S20 hunter

Currently was going to go with the Nosler 150gr ABLR, I do have some Berger 156gr EOL and hornady ELDX loaded to try to.

Other considerations are the 140gr Accubond or partition or a monolithic bullet maybe?

I currently live in SE British Columbia right in the Rocky mountains. So I mainly hunt elk and deer if they show up on a elk hunt. Always in the mountains, glassing clearcuts but mainly hiking into different valleys, bowls, drainages etc. Typically will never get a chance at something more then 200yds, most Elko have been close. Deer I have more opportunities for maybe slightly farther distances on some farms/fields.

What are your thoughts/preferences/experience with these bullets? What would suite the calibre an hunting scenario? I am personally leaning towards the Nosler 150gr ablr. Will try some loads this weekend just curious what others think.

Thanks!

I have a 264 also with a 1-7.5 JC barrel. Similar cartridge. I have found the ABLR bullets to be finniky at best. N570 is my preferred powder.

The 140 AB has shot well for just about everyone I know.

Ya I have also been considering the 140AB instead of the ablr since most shots will be a shorter distance, I just liked having the heavier bullet for more energy.

I found the LRAB impossible to load for in my PRC 1.7.5t IBI...same with buddy in his Sako s20 - gave up and now narrowed down a load using 140gr Impacts and R26 - WooWee think i may be onto a good hunting load - 3175fps, low sd/es, and sub Moa at 200 and 400yds for 5 shots, and put the last 3 in 5" at 595yds... now if i can repeat, i am done!
We shot two into a line of water jugs to check expansion, but both bullets were unfindable in our crude setup. Will try again on that project.

Was it the 150gr lrab your buddy tried in his S20? I have heard they like alot of jump an to keep moving farther off lands tell ya find what works. Read few things online that nosler recommends keeping them far off lands usually just at the stand coal in the book. Going to try em tomo an will see. Just like the bonded bullet plus extra weight for energy.

I'd go with the 127gr Barnes LRX. It's a deep penetrating bullet that will work great on elk. I shot a moose with the 140gr AB and it worked very well too, just hard to source at the moment.

We tried the 142's and 150's in our PRC's, using H1000, R26, and n565. Nada. Seated 20 to 120, and the best groups we got, which were not acceptable, were 50-60 off both bullets.
BTW, the impact is also a bonded bullet.

Study ballistic charts for the 140-150 gr bullets with the speed you get in YOUR rifle. There isn't much diff between the two, slightly in favour of the 140's

Ya I've heard some people got them to shoot very well an some not. 50/50 chance. I have them loaded already so worth a try. If they don't shoot I guess I'll start trying some 140s as well as do some more ballistic comparisons on them.
I've thought about the monolithic bullets like Barnes lrx or hornady CX just not to sure how I feel about em, kind of like the bullets that dump half there energy right away then half the bullet penetrates farther then the monolithics that seem to just punch a hole right through all the time.

I'm loading 127 LRX, happy with the accuracy. This year will be first hunt with this cartridge. I've hunted with the LRX in 6.5X65RWS and it is a good bullet. It needs a big jump compared to bullets like the Partition, mine is at 70 off the lands.

I've also had good accuracy with the 155 Lapua mega in the PRC. The PRC was designed for heavier/longer bullets, any modern 140 and above should be fine, just need to find one that works in your rifle.

Well I shot the 150 lrab today, 3 of the powder charges shot under a 1", two of the charges where next to each other an there fps where close to same. So will load more of them up an verify, maybe change the jump a bit and see.
Tried some 143eldx an it was a 1" group maybe bit more. Will load some more up of them to to try.
Looks promising though, even if I can keep the 150s consistent at 1" or less that'll do great for minute of elk out to 200yds. At least until I get some other bullets to try!
