Hey guys

I have an antique c96 I want to get shooting and I have everything I need except bullets

I know the hornady bullets are .308 but from my understanding the bores can be much larger up to .310-.311.

So I am wondering if it would be safe to use .32 cal(.312) jacketed bullets 71 gr in the c96? These bullets were intended for .32acp but since I can't find any other bullts for the mauser I thought I'd give it a try and ask for advice to see if it's safe or not

The bore is worn by there is still rifling, so I'm thinking the .312 bullts might be better for this worn bore

OP - you have started two threads with same opening words, in same forum, each thread with same title. Maybe you should contact a Moderator and have the two threads merged into one??

How much larger can the bullet be than the bore?

One thou over in a jacketed bullet is no issue. Lead can go a little bigger. What you are really concerned with is the diameter to the bottom of the grooves. Larger than the diameter between the lands, smaller than the diameter to the bottom of the grooves. - dan

If the gun is worn your bore may be larger than nominal but 7.63 has always been .308. If you are concerned the best way to figure it out is to slug it. I have Hornady 86sp bullets marked 7.63 Mauser and the listed diameter is .309. They shoot very well.
