Bullet for a 223

Thinking out loud, the 55gr Campros seem like a lower tier bullet than some of the others than have been suggested so I personally don't see the point of shooting them through a decent bolt gun (I have shot thousands of them in semis) as they probably wouldn't have the accuracy level I am looking for (I would be shocked with a 7.5 twist).

With that in mind shooting them for me would be a waste in terms of barrel life.

The odds of shooting out a .223 bolt action without really working at is pretty slim. At least for hunting/ recreational accuracy.
Bulk wise 68 and 75 hornady bthps are pretty good. If the 73 eldm was offered in bulk it would be my choice for most and fit magazines better. There are 69 & 77 grain bthps offered by most manufacturers, Lapua and Sierra are slightly more consistent for accuracy but most would do for punch paper and ringing steel. Unfortunately most of the heavy bthps are not consistent when shooting critters.
Lots of lighter bullets being suggested, I wouldn't bother fmjs but hornady's 55 grain soft point (2266 if you want an item number) often available in bulk and a good plinking and critter bullet. I wouldn't worry about too fast a twist.

I got the Tikka T3X Tac A1 in 223. Let me say this, it is an European gun that likes European ammo. I've shot American Eagle 55gr plain jane 223 out of it and it shot with 3-5 MOA groups at 100 yards. The moment I used reloads that I made with 75-77gr bullets the groupings were basically all touching or through the same hole at 100 yards. I cheaped out a bit and used Starline brass rather than Lapua however I used Varget and Sierra green tipped 77gr SMK and I tried Hornady 75gr red tipped. I don't care what others have said about lighter bullets working just fine (maybe they do if you get the right recipe) this is a rifle that likes heavy bullets and will shoot excellent with heavy .224 bullets. Oh I tried .224 88gr Hornady and it shot terribly.

I have a Tikka Varmint with a 1-8 twist. What is a good bullet for it? Looking for something heavier. 65-80 gr bullet.
I purchased my Varmint summer of 2024 and played with a couple of loads using 77gr SMK and CFE223.

Good Luck on your load development.
