Bullet grain weight

I shot mine for years with factory and reloads in 165 with okay accuracy. Recently I switched to 150 grain bullets and my accuracy is better. Could be more practice or my reloading has improved but I'm thinking 150 is the weight for the M14.

If you want the best results, first use Sierra 168 HPBT. If you need more.....move to Lapua 167 HPBT.......There's no better bullet.
It's all I use and is the same price as the Sierra 168.
If you need more than that, move to Lapua brass (yes it matters)

The 168/167 will be the base foundation for accuracy to build upon.theory is not reality- there's VOLUMES been written on the best loads by the likes of zediker, etc- why not take advantage of his research and eliminate the guesswork on your part- consensus was the best bullet was 168hpbt, and it is a 1/12 twist- which, theoretically, should allow you to shoot up to 180s using greenhills formula- however, if you should venture above 170 , you will have to put up with accelerated wear and possibly bent/broken op-rods; therefore use zediker's formulations and stick to 168s- the reason why you find 150s is that it's the old 06 garand load and they didn't want to change bullet weights- i've got 4 of them and they all shoot better with 165-168 grain bullets
If the rifle is not tuned up, it might not be able to see the difference between military bulets and match bullets. Big price difference.
It also takes a good shot to see the difference.

You're right, I corrected my post.
Do NOT use match bullets for hunting............they have very thin jackets and are not designed for expansion in game................match bullets will tend to disintegrate on impact..........
