I have been a die hard proponent of 168 grain and have been shooting the balistic silver tip 168 grain with awsome results many deer and an elk out to 300m. I am shooting the M305 on a troy stalk and the barrel cut down to 18.5 inches and recrowned, This year I am moving into a 300 WM and will be shooting 190 grain. My question is this, I would like to reload a couple hundered casings I have laying around, and it should be noted I am not new to reloading but am contemplating 110 grain VS 130 grain and with what powder and what would some of the crowd that have done some serious shooting think and go with. I will with out a doubt not even think twice in using the chosen round to take deer with , but will also use it on coyote and other, but I am going to start using a 300WM at 190 grain, and wish to create a larger gap between the two weapons and I would prefer to only keep this about the 110 grain VS 130 grain, Thanks Dwane

The 110 is pretty short your not gonna get alot of bullet in the case it may cause problems loading as it slams up and in? maybe not but i would stay with something abit longer just my 2 cents

I am using the 130 gr Speer (or is it 125?) TNT bullet for my M14 on the groundhogs... You are right, it sure opens up the earthpigs! Lots of fun. Big noise, hardly any kick!

Yup, not a single problem feeding the bullets out of the magazine! Life is good. I like lighter bullets! Especially since I'm shooting inside 300m. Now, many moons ago in the early Y2K years, I shot this bullet out to 500 yards at Service Rifle shoots, and they sure were fun to shoot. Really quick and easy follow up shots at Match # 11 500 yard rapid fire! Good times! :D

Cheers and hope this helps out!

what kind of velocities are you guys getting with the 130 gr's ?
what kinda range would you say...... launch one at a coyote? like max range?
was thinking of rebarreling to a 260 or 243 but if you guys are happy with the 130gr 308 performance I'm gonna start looking into loading some myself.

any idea what barrel twist the 130 would prefer?

I went through this dilemna myself a couple of years ago. I loaded the Speer 110 grain sp and absolutely loved it. It proved to be deadly accurate and cheap to reload when I compared it to what I was paying loading 165 gr SST's. They are a short bullet, but there is no problem holding them in the case. I used a factory crimp die. Accuracy was as good as anything else, and it was nothing to whack coyotes to almost 300 long yards with them.

I am using the 130 gr Speer (or is it 125?) TNT bullet for my M14.....

I find the 125Gr TNT's over 48gr H4895 are amazing! Real lasers and as mentioned cheap to shoot and no recoil. I have shot these loads out to 300M so far and I have not experienced any feeding issues either.

I just brought some Vmax 110g to try. When loading light projectiles for the m14 what sort of powder charge do you use? I assume the max load in the book isn't very kind to the rifle.

I loaded some 110 gr VMax. I used WLR primers, IVI brass, 49.7 gr of BL-C(2), and COL of 2.650". In my gun, they shoot fantastic! Several time I have shot 3 shot groups at 100 yds, off a bench with iron sights, of around 1.5". My rifle is completely stock, I should mention. I have no comment on their effectiveness on deer, but for coyotes they would work great.

It sounds like half dozen one or the other, personel preference almost, i put the inquire about deer because most people reach for 150gr bullets with the 308. Like all guns they have there optimal load and from my military career and my expierience the 308 optimal load for longe range, kinitic energy and stability in flight is the 168gr. like wise i understand 300WM is 190gr. The rest starts coming out with individual prefrences. I would think just being 30 cal at 110gr the loads as stated above would match or surpass other deer cartridges and with a aimed shot into the boiler room of bamby would have no problems doing the job in and about my 100m range, My question then to see would be the actual penetration and effect the round may have, and that then becomes the question i would be hunting for?
