OP, there's no dumb questions. If you want to learn more about casting, especially obsolete calibers like your Mauser, check out the dedicated "Cast Boolits" forum. That isn't a typo. Boolits has become something of a term of endearment amongst bullet casters to differentiate them from gilded/jacketed "condom" bullets. Best of luck with the new hobby.

It's the shape of the bullet. One might be a flat nose and the other a round nose (the round nose being longer and thus being heavier)
