Hey Guys and Gals -

I'm looking for a .309 or .311 diameter bullet mould, in the 200-grain range... and haven't been able to find anything locally for some time now.

What I want to know is where you all buy your moulds in Canada - who's got the best selection on this side of the border, and will ship to me in Edmonton? Also, if anyone in Canada carries something similar to the Lyman 2-cavity hollowpoint moulds I'd be all over that like a Liberal on your taxes...

Also, I've had a couple of near-successes in making my own custom mould, but does anyone have any really good information on using a cherry to cut the moulds? I'm going to give it one more go, and if it doesn't work I'm firing up the lathe and boring one...

Thanks in advance for any info on either topic.

I looked at mountainmolds, and LOVE their online design program... but the lead time is 3-6 weeks at present - yikes!

I was sort of hoping to pick up an off-the-shelf item somewhere if I could, but if I have to go custom I'll do it. I'll almost definitely go custom in the future, as I LOVE some of the work I see on castboolits, but for now I just want a cheap projectile option for subsonic loading.

Midsouth Shooters' supply in Tenn. sells Lyman and RCBS molds off the shelf incl. the popular .30 cal molds....i don't know of a "full line" supplier of these molds in Canada. Another good supplier of these molds is Buffalo Arms in Id., they also sell the excellent Saeco line of bullet molds, which are among the best. For other "quality" molds check out the ind. mold maker websites...BRP custom...Mountain Molds....Hoch....LBT.....CBE....Big Lube INC....NOE Int....there are alot more but these are the best of the best.

Sweet, thanks fellas - this is exactly the kind of feedback I need. I want to go custom eventually, but for now I'd like to pick up something stock to tide me over in the meantime.

Just checked Midsouth, and apparently now the BULLET MOULDS may require export licenses!!!

JESUS!

I'll contact their sales/export department before I get too worked up about it though - maybe if it's under $100 it'll be subject to the exception.

For the Lee stuff, Higginsens Powder usually has a good selection available.

I know Bashaw sports to the south of you had a few moulds when I was there last.

Doc M.
If you order an off the shelf mould out of the states don't be suprised if it take three weeks to geth here. If customs decides to play with it for a day or two or they forget it in a back corner is all it takes.
Buffalo Arms has been great to deal with and another fella a that I can point you toward is customcastbullets.com
Louise is great to deal with and if he has it he is fast.

Good Luck Ken.

I think that Midsouth puts that on most everything, but last time i checked molds were Okay! Terrorists must not be casting their own yet!

Were hoping to have a selection of bullet molds on hand in the near future.
It is not up on our website but we will be stocking lee, RCBS and Lyman molds .

I ordered a .395 ball Lee from Higginsons this Spring. It came in short order. I bought a .375 ball Lee in Wholesale in Regina just the other day. I am fiddling around making up loads for my Ishapore 3" .410.:p

Has anyone heard of a custom mould maker in Saskatchewan by the name of Leo Bumphrey ?
Apparently he makes them for the BPCR customers and turns out a fine product.
I would really appreciate finding his contact info.

Kevan yes I have been emailing him to get a custom cut for my 44-77 Sharps.
He is in Regina.
There is a fella in Winnipeg that cuts papwer patch moulds and he make very nasty moulds i have three of his Kal Tool and Die.

Yea. WSS used to have a decent supply of rifle moulds a few years ago, but some idiot decided to carry round ball and pistol only. I don't even think you can order them through the Calgary warehouse anymore. Now if you want a 30 cal rifle mould in Edmonton, you have to order them from outside the city.

Higgison carries Lee Molds and Lee makes a 200 grainer.. Not a top drawer mold however but inexpensive..
Higgison also carries Hornady gas checks..
