I have no luck not breaking my bullet puller. 2 bullet pullers in a row. I have the Frankford Arsenal Impact Bullet Puller. I don't know if it's the best Impact Bullet Puller but it was recommended to me but it seems after 8 or so hand loads I'm breaking the collet right around where the rubber O-ring goes. Does anyone know where I can get new collets or where I can get a better bullet puller. It's always the set for the .308 I break :(

Thanks
CK

I have a RCBS inertia puller. Instead of using the supplied collet, I simply use the shell holder I use in my press. Slip the cartridge in the holder, insert into puller and tighten the cap. Works great give it a try.

I'm pulling all theses bullets cause I realized my scale was out and put to much powder in to a set of what should have been final loads f:P:2:

I will have to give that a try tomorrow when I go to finish pulling my bullets thanks.

Get a collet style that works in your press and end the frustration:eek:

And where would I find this bullet puller?

RCBS, Forster, Hornady all make collet type bullet pullers, much less frustrating then the inertia(Hammer) ones.

What do you mean your breaking the collet... The metal collet comes like that its in three parts and you arrange them into a circle and put the o-ring around them. Both frankford arsenal and RCBS use simmilar style collets.

The groove the o-ring goes in to is breaking apart so that the o-ring will no longer stay in-place so the collet falls apart when I take the top off to remover the powder and bullet. But as Cummins4x4 said I have taken do using the collet I use for my press in the bullet remover and no more problem.

I used to only break the screw on cap on my rcbs inertia puller (3 times)......last week I broke the shaft.....RCBS wants me to send it back this time .

I think Ill put that money towards something durable.

Mine-Got! Und I thought ve vere all girlie-men. Look at de muscles on zees guys - breaking collets, splitting pullers in half!

+1 on the RCBS Bullet Pullet w/o Collets, plus whatever collets you need. Talk to CGN user "smacdonald" CedarVallyHunting - I'm getting him to set me up with the right collets ($13 each). There are other vendors selling them as well, and they occasionally pop up on EE.

Ebay USA has a bunch, but prices are the same as up here, generally.

PS - thanks for the tip on using the shell holder! I have spares, and was getting tired of having the round slip through after three or four whacks.

I don't know what it is you are doing to pull the bullets but I have pulled 100's with my Frankford with nary an issue. This includes pulling 100 very hard seated 7mm Rem Mags....took me over an hour of smacking that damn thing.

Be sure to use the end of a 2x4/4x4/2x8/etc.. rather than hitting it on concrete or the likes.

I mentioned not hitting these things on concrete, but to use some scrap wood a couple of years ago and got laughed at. Though the directions don't say don't hit concrete, they do say to avoid using heavy blows. Most people would be tempted to use it like a hammer which will cause them to break.

I've had mine for almost 10 years in the OEM configuration and it still works fine. Just don't wail on it.

I have had one for over 25 yrs and it has been used many times, but I have never hit anything but wood with mine , and I have hit it as hard as I can more than a few times.Guess them don't make em like they used to!!!!

I hit mine on concrete and pulled maybe 100-150 bullets since the last 2 years (had a powder measure problem) but it was 9mm, not 308. I heard that if you don't tight the cap tight enough, the round moves and then it breaks

Too tight and the cap blows apart....I didnt' realize the concrete part..that's what I did for last couple years too. Ive been having a tougher go of it since Ive had to pull some 22-250 and 243 win. The heavier stuff comes out better.
