Well, another step towards getting my 25 Stevens running again, a member here has been gracious enough to make me a sizing die and cast me some 65gr .258 bullets.

The bullets are dead soft lead and the original bullets were .251 in size.

The member stated that the die should be sizing dies out to .250 but that I could ream it out to .251 easy enough. I wanted to know though, with a .250 bullet in soft lead running on top of about 10gr of FFFg would the bullet bump out to fill the rifling or should I look to ream out that sizer to .251.

I understand that I should probably shoot it to learn how it will work as it but looking for advice.

This will be low pressure, low velocity and the gun is a rimfire that only ever shot soft lead bullets.

Thanks

I would size bigger, even 2-3 thou bigger. Sounds like little chance of obturation of the bullets with mouse farther loads

The factory ammo was dead soft .251, I do not think I want to go 2-3 thou over the factory dead soft bullet diameter.

This gun was designed around black powder and soft lead bullets.

I guess if the bullet were hollow like a heeled 22 LR bullet it may bump out better.
