I am planning on driving down to the states and picking up some bullet tips for reloading. I was wondering if their is any laws or regulations for doing this.

Bullet tip #1: Get an export permit (U.S.).
Bullet tip #2: Declare them and pay GST.
Bullet tip #3: Load with due care and caution.

#1 if your not american YOU cannot yourself get export permit

#2 get caught exporting without permit (they DO search on us side) maybe lose your car your freedom and hundreds of thousands $$$ in fines lifetime U.S ban ECT

#3

BUY bullets in canada and dont worry about any of above

and pay maybe $20.00 more............

You may be able to import bullet tips, just the plastic part, but not the whole bullet. Either way it would be cheaper and easier to buy the tips and the bullets in one unit, take it from someone who has tried to swage plastic tips onto cast bullets.

"...driving down to the states and picking up some bullet tips..." You can't. Reloading components are restricted for export by U.S. law.
And it's just a bullet. Not a bullet tip. It's not "if their is any" either. It's "if there are any". Here endeth the lesson.

$20 more? I buy in bulk so the extra is always in the hundreds. If I only lived in the States I would have saved enough money by now to build a house after paying Canadian rates for ammo for the last 15 years!

All the legal loopholes, its not worth the hassle of buying in the US, buy in Canada and get raped like we do with every other commodity we need to buy.

thanks for the tip mom

Ok so importing is a big no no, which brings me to my next question. Where can i buy bulk bullet tips in canada for a decent price.

It would probably be easier just to buy complete bullets. Then you can size some cartridge cases, add primers and powder, then seat those bullets into the cases.

You can not even bring back the plastic tip of and A-max or V-max sorry... They are very clear that you can not bring projectiles powder primers or brass without the proper export and import permits.

Check out my Equiptment Exchange posting In my signature below for bullets priced so good you will think your shoping in the states without any of the hassles I have many good deals on both handgun and rifle bullets for reloading.

Go to EXCOL and apply for an import permit. (Takes 6-8days).
Get an exporter in the states to purchase the bullets you want and apply for the export permit. (if they do it online then it can take as little as 5-7 days).
Get the bullets from the exporter with the paperwork and head back home. Dead easy.

in my experience you don't need an export permit to import inert projectiles. I've done it many times in the past, and they've been openly declared as such on the documents attached to the package. primers and powder, or "live" ammo are obviously another story.
