I'm curious as to other shooter's reasonings for specific bullet weight selection, in a specific caliber. Besides the obvious target vs sonic range relationship, why would someone choose a 250 gr bullet over a 285gr? The theoretically ballistic of both are very similar. Is there a mysterious scientific reason that i haven't found yet or is it just "My rifle loves this bullet!"?

The question is probably more geared towards long range matches. Not having competed or yet attempted ELR shooting, i would assume that a heavier grain bullet would be the better choice in the ELR Match due to its ability to carry more energy and be less affected by environmental effects.
