well i havent had the privilage to hunt in ont yet (soon i hope) but i have hunted in N.S and i use .303 british winchester super x 180 grain and have had fairly good luck with them they seem to drop em effecintly as well maintain little to no spoilage as far as bullet wound goes but i agree with everyone that the .300 weatherby is way to much gun for whitetail even for those ones that hang around the nuculer powerplant

I second that, I used the same .303 in super X 180 gr. power-point last fall on Western Quebec deer and it punched an entry point the size of a toony in the rib cage. Heck if you NEED a caliber greater than
30-30 to drop your deer, you need to spend more time on the range...

Well - the exception being if more range is your problem at the time Some places you need to reach out and touch 'em at 200 - 300 yards, and that's asking a little bit out of a 30-30. But a 303 with a scope and 150 grain Light Mag ammo will do it fine.

There are some hunting situations that can enjoy the benefits of a 'bigger' gun on deer, but it really depends on what you're doing and what your conditions are like.

I use 95 grn.nosler partitions in my 243 and 160 grn.nosler partitions in my 7x57 for deer.I used to use 130 grn.Noslers in a 270 but it damaged too much meat.I tried a 160 grn.Nosler part in it and not near as much damage.Just my experience.I have a 338 but would not think of dragging it through the woods for Deer.

Since this is a serious thread, may I suggest using a bore adaptor and shooting a .32 auto in your Wheatabix? I use on in my .300 WM, and it works ok on chickens...

Bullets For Deer

Thanks for everyones helpful information. Beware of a man with but one rifle, he probably nows how to use it. This rifle is mainly for moose, l like
long range shooting, more of a challenge. l spend hours at the range every month, because of my job. lt's the only rifle l have, and l don't know
any one else to borrow one from right now.

Actually they hold up at speeds pushing 3700fps just fine.

In a 300 Weatherby I'd be shooting something stouter like a 165 gr. Partition or Barnes Triple Shock X. Maybe even 180 gr.

If I was to choose a standard type bullet for whatever reason, it would be a 190 gr. Hornady Interlock BTSP or a 200 gr. Sierra GameKing BTSP.
