Bullets recovered from deer........

303Carbine,
Here's a couple mulies that we shot with STWs this week. As you can see, there is very little left of the one on the right. That one was shot with 154 Hornady Interlocks. The other ran into a 140 TSX. Both got heart shots at 100 yards or less, but the Hornady made a hell of a mess and the TSX didn't.

Dogleg, I can see you fellows are serious about camo out in Sask.:D ;)

Shot two deer with the 170gr flat nosed bullet in a 30-30. Both dropped in thier tracks. Shot one with a 180gr Norma bal-tip in a 30-06, it still managed to walk uphill 50yds.

I've shot several moose with the 180gr Nosler BT,(30-06) and had none go more than a few feet. for a so called fragile bullet, they have done the job well.

I now load the Nosler Accubond as it offers the Ballistics of the BT, and the ability to stay relatively intact, for both the .338 win mag, and the -06

We have to wear complete suits of red, yellow, blaze orange or white in the rifle big game seasons. For bow and muzzleloader we wear whatever we want. As near as I can tell, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference.:D Course I've only been doing this for 30 years, I could be wrong. ;)

Can you wear a complete suit of white when there is snow on the ground?

I know what you mean. I probably shot more game wearing blue jeans and a mackinaw, then in my full camo.

Nice looking bucks by the way. Good racks!

.303/moose

A little late in the thread, but here's a pic of a bullet I recoverd from my dads moose this year, I had some pretty good .303 loads worked up but no license this year. My Dad borrowed the gun and was successful.

Cartridge .303 British 174g Hornady RN (.312) IVI Case, Federal 210M Primer, 42.5g IMR 4350, light factory crimp (Lee). Consistantly shoots 1-2 inches at 100 yards.

Rifle Lee Enfield #1 MKIII 1911...

About a 100-150 yard shot bullet broke a rib on the way in, shredded the lungs, broke another 2 ribs on the way out and hung up in the far side. Very little or no meat damage. Kinda small moose, 70Lbs quarters.

thats awfully nice of you to blind fold your deer before you execute them :D

Nice bucks

7stw

I used to head shoot the deer if I got the shot, the 7 stw was in my books too much of a good thing for deer. It worked really well for bigger critters further out. From 300 yards and up the stw really did its thing on heavy game like moose.:) Nice deer by the way, I wish they were that big here on the Island......

just shot a 120 lb buck last nite with my marlin 44 mag using 240 hp rifle loads and the bullet was found under the skin on the other side of the deer. the bullet expanded the way it should have and weighs 196.8. the bullet busted ribs and a lung and the deer droped on the spot. it was a 50yard shot. 6 points.
