Bullets won't eject properly!!

I have a hinged drop plate rifle that won't eject the bullets properly. I pulled the gun apart to try and fix it, but I think I made it worse. For some reason it seems that the plate doesn't come up far enough. Any suggestions?????

Cartridges are generally not ejected by the magazine plate, rather by an ejection system. That may be as simple as a solid stop that slides up through the bolt face, or as elaborate as a spring plunger.
As mentioned above, we need to know what rifle you are working with.
